FOR carrying cocaine worth P28.8 million hidden inside his luggage, a Turkish passenger was arrested upon arrival at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1 in Pasay City on March 21, 2023.

Passenger Kemal Ozenir, 47, arrived at the NAIA carrying illegal drugs from Dubai via Emirates Airlines with flight number EK 332 and was originally from Brazil as port of origin.

Based on information from their foreign counterparts, personnel from the BOC-NAIA, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and NAIA Inter-Agency Drug Interdiction Task Group (NAIA-IADITG) were informed of the passenger’s slated arrival.

When his luggage was subjected to x-ray, K9 and 100% physical examination, authorities discovered at total of 3,945 grams of cocaine concealed in bath soaps and 1,500 ml liquid cocaine mixed with lotions. The drugs found had a total estimated value of P28,858,500, as confirmed by the PDEA.

Owing to this, the passenger was apprehended for possible violation of RA 9165, or the Comprehensive Drug Act and RA 10863 also known as the Customs Modernization And Tariff Act (CMTA).

The BOC- NAIA said it will remain committed to its mandate of protecting the borders and will continue coordinating with partner agencies.

The BOC, under the guidance of Commissioner Bienvenido Rubio, vowed to protect the country against entry of illegal goods aligned with the mandates of President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr.
