TWO passengers are currently in custody of the Philippine National Police Aviation Security Group (PNP AVSEU) for further investigation after they were overheard making a bomb joke.
Reportedly, the incident happened at approximately 10:56 a.m. on October 19, 2024. During the final passenger count for Cebu Pacific Flight 5J486 bound for Manila, the two passengers, identified as Reynaldo Aleroso and Ernesto Erise, were overheard making a bomb joke.
In response, the PNP-AVSEU and its Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit were immediately dispatched to the aircraft to ensure safety.
Engr. Eusebio Monserate of CAAP Area Center 6 Manager said all passengers were promptly deplaned for a thorough security inspection.
The airline accommodated the affected passengers in the pre-departure area and provided them with light snacks while waiting.
Following a comprehensive security check and clearance, Cebu Pacific Flight 5J486 successfully departed from Bacolod-Silay Airport at approximately 1 p.m.
CAAP spokesman Eric Apolonio said the safety of passengers remains the top priority of all involved agencies and airline partners.
“The public is reminded that bomb jokes are taken seriously and carry strict legal penalties,” he said.
