TWO male foreign nationals tagged as sex offenders in two separate incidents in Cebu and Manila, were barred entry into the country by the Bureau of Immigration (BI).

It was learned from BI spokesperson Dana Sandoval that both foreign nationals have also been included in the BI’s blacklist.

Sandoval said that Swedish national Borje Millert Hultberg, 63 was arrested at the Mactan-Cebu International Airport, when he arrived in the afternoon of January 6 from Sweden via Hong Kong on board a Cathay Pacific flight.

He was stopped after the BI received information from Nordic law enforcement that he was previously convicted in Sweden in 2023 for possession of child pornography.

Sandoval said that on the same day, the BI stopped the entry of a US national Rene Reyna, 52, was nabbed at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 1. Reyna flew in from Los Angeles to Manila on board a Philippine Airlines flight.

Records show that Reyna was convicted in 2013 in Texas for indecency with a child by contact, with the victim being only 16.

Sandoval said the BI’s #ShieldKids campaign is an intensified drive aims to prevent child exploitation by keeping registered sex offenders out of the country, leveraging international law enforcement cooperation and intelligence sharing.
