THE United States Embassy in Manila yesterday thanked the Philippines for its support when chaos and violence erupted in Washington DC as supporters of President Donald Trump breached security and stormed the Capitol as Congress tackled the electoral vote certification.
A statement was released yesterday by US Embassy Charge d’Affaires John Law saying “I would like to thank our many Philippine friends who reached out to us in the wake of the violence at the U.S. Capitol.”
He said the “heartfelt messages of support remind us that the friendship between our peoples remains strong.”
Leaders across our political spectrum have condemned last week’s criminal behavior and called for accountability, the statement said.
The same statement quoted Secretary of State Michael Pompeo stating, “this type of lawlessness and destruction is unacceptable. But those persons’ actions do not define our country; our principles and our ideals do.”
Law said on January 20, political power will transition peacefully, as it has for over two centuries.
“Throughout that time, American democracy has repeatedly proven resilient and strong. With the support of steadfast friends like the Philippines, I am confident that will continue to be true,” he added.
