MANILA Mayor Honey Lacuna announced that in view of the days when typhoon hit the country, the deadline set by the city government for the public to undertake the cleaning or refurbishment of the tombs or niches of their departed loved ones at the Manila North Cemetery had been moved to October 29, 2024.
Lacuna said that the advisory was issued as early as the first week of October, or way ahead of the observance of All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day on November 1 and 2, precisely to give the public all the time needed for them to spruce up their loved ones’ tombs in the said cemetery.
The early advisory, according to the mayor, is meant to allow visitors to also prepare accordingly, noting that the MNC headed by its Director, Yayay Castaneda, happens to the be biggest cemetery in the country, registering the most number of visitors annually especially on November 1 and 2.
The offices of the MNC meantime, will be closed from October 27 to November 3, 2024 and all services including cremation and interment will resume on November 4.
From October 30 to November 3, the main gate of the cemetery will be open from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. only.
Lacuna called on the public to observe the usual dos and don’ts to avoid any hassle.
She said that during the Undas, all intoxicating drinks will be banned, along with pets, flammable materials like thinner and paint, guns, knives or similar objects, paraphernalia for gambling and playing of loud music.
