THE Manila city government simultaneously conducted the other day simulation exercises for COVID-19 vaccination at the city-run Gat Andres Bonifacio Memorial Medical Center (GABMMC) and vaccine transport, in preparation for the arrival of the anti-COVID vaccines
Mayor Isko Moreno said the vaccination simulation exercise at the GABMMC was headed by its director, Dr. Ted Martin and participated in by medical frontliners of the said hospital.
The exercise, Moreno said, is part of the preparations being undertaken continuously by the city government in readiness for mass inoculation.
“Kinakailangan po natin maging maagap, masinop at episyente upang matiyak ang kaligtasan ng bawat isa laban sa banta ng COVID-19. Thank you po kay GABMMC Director Dr. Ted Martin at sa kaniyang masisipag na mga kawani sa dedikasyon ninyo sa trabaho at kahandaan sa pagsisilbi sa mas marami pang mga Manileño!,” Moreno said.
Meanwhile, Manila Health Department (MHD) chief Dr. Arnold Pangan led the simulation of the transport of vaccines from the storage facility at the Sta. Ana Hospital to the 18 target vaccination sites in the city. From the Sta. Ana Hospital, the vaccines were placed inside transport coolers and brought to their various destinations.
Moreno said the simulation exercises are meant to perfect the vaccination program of the city and assured that all of the six hospitals being run by the city government are ready to administer the vaccines to those who are interested to get the jab.
The mayor added that he and Vice Mayor Honey Lacuna, along with hospital directors, will lead in availing of the vaccine which he said may take place next week at the earliest.
He and Lacuna have been actively campaigning for the residents and the public to get vaccinated.
Moreno explained that without the vaccine, we are a hundred percent at risk of getting infected and even dying from the coronavirus while with the vaccine, the risk of turning into a severe case is lessened due to the protection that the vaccines provide.
Meanwhile, Moreno welcomed an offer by the Philippine Navy for the provision of security for the vaccination program, specifically for its transport from the storage facility to the vaccination sites. Also yesterday, Moreno expressed support to the proposal of the Department of Tourism for establishing a “Family Day” in the city and allowing those 15 years old or younger to visit tourist attractions that have open spaces.
