THE New NAIA Infra Corp (NNIC) said a minor vehicular incident was reported at the NAIA Terminal 2 Arrival Area on Friday night involving a Toyota Hi-Ace Super Grandia that hit the curb between Bays 13 and 14 while it was doing a maneuver.

Authorities said that as per the driver’s account, he was trying to avoid another vehicle when the incident, described as minor, occurred.

Fortunately, no one was hurt and no property was damaged.

It was learned that airport security and police responded right away and after a quick assessment, the van was safely backed out and escorted to the Airport Police Division (APD) for routine documentation.

Airport authorities said the area where the vehicle struck the curb does not have bollards, as Bays 13 and 14 are not high-traffic zones and have not been assessed as posing significant safety or security risks.

The NNIC said the absence of bollards in that location is consistent with current airport design standards.

The bollards currently in place across NAIA were installed in 2019, prior to NNIC assuming operations in September 2024.

The NNIC said the area has since been included in a full audit of bollard placements across all NAIA terminals, which has now been completed.

The company is now implementing improvements to ensure existing bollards are properly installed and securely anchored, while also adding new ones in key areas and is said to be working closely with authorities to strengthen airport safety measures wherever needed.

The effort follows a separate incident at the NAIA Terminal 1 last month where a speeding vehicle left two people dead.
