As part of preparations for the holding of the Manila Film Festival (MFF) as one of the highlights of the ‘Araw ng Maynila’ celebration in June 2023, Vice Mayor Yul Servo-Nieto held a meeting with the festival’s technical working group.

Among others, Servo and the attendees to the meeting tackled the timelines involved in the MFF including the submission of screenplays.

Even if final dates have yet to be established, Nieto said the team also discussed the target dates for the review of the screenplays submitted by the various participating schools up to its screening in Manila theaters.

“The festival aims to inspire the Manilenos, especially the young cinematography enthusiasts, to use and engage their talents in developing Filipino films for screening every time the City of Manila commemorates its founding anniversary,” said Nieto, who himself is an award-winning actor.

“Gusto po naming bigyan ng magandang saysay at karagdagang kasiyahan ang nalalapit na pagdiwang ng Araw ng Maynila, sa pamamagitan ng maayos na pag buhay muli ng Manila Film Festival,” he added.

A project of Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna and Vice Mayor Yul Servo Nieto in cooperation with Artcore Productions, the revitalized Manila Film Festival is a program that was started by then First Lady Imelda Romualdez Marcos during the early 70s.

It was shelved however, when the Metro Manila Film Festival was organized.
