ONCE again, Vice President Sara Duterte will be the country’s caretaker as President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. attends the 77th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York on September 18.

Malacananang made the announcement, saying VP Duterte will be the caretaker up to the time when the President returns on September 24.

It will be recalled that Duterte was tasked the same when Marcos visited Indonesia and Singapore recently.

Marcos is slated to speak at the UNGA on September 20 where he will focus on economic recovery, food security and agricultural productivity.

“We are going to expect that his speech will be relating to how the Philippines will be recovering from this pandemic and where he intends to take this and how he will do so in cooperation with other states,” Press Secretary Trixie Cruz-Angeles said.

“The UN is where countries of the world congregate to discuss the most pressing challenges facing our people. Thus, it is important for us to participate in the General Assembly and to make certain that our voice is heard,” said Marcos, who is also slated to hold bilateral meetings, business engagements and meet up with the Filipino community in the United States, along with UN Secretary-General António Guterres, among othesr.

“I will participate in business activities to forge more partnerships to advance our national, economic, and sustainable development in general. I will be joined in these meetings by key private sector representatives who have been and will continue to be our partners in this endeavor,” Marcos said.
