Why Alden is so inspired

ALDEN Richards has a lot to be thankful for. After winning best actor in Gawad Pasado, he now won as Phenomenal Star of Philippine Cinema (for box office) and Film Actor of the Year (for acting) at the recent Guillermo Mendoza Box Office Awards. He got all the honors for his blockbuster film last year, “Hello, Love, Goodbye”.

“Sobrang dami ng blessings na dumarating sa akin kaya abut-abot talaga ang pasasalamat ko kay Lord at sa people behind these award-giving bodies,” says Alden. “They really help inspire me to always do my best. Salamat din sa lahat ng nakagusto ng episode naming ‘Love at the Balcony’ sa ‘I Can See You’ which rated really well. Sa mga nagtatanong naman po kung kailan ako gagawa ng movie with Bea Alonzo, I hope makarating sa mga kinauukulan ang request nyo para mabigyan kami nga ng project together kapag tapos na itong pandemya.”

No wonder Alden feels so energized and encouraged these days when he does his musical production numbers in “All Out Sundays”. As one fan says: “Halatang ganadung-ganado si Alden to give his best. Nagpapakitang gilas. Inspired na inspired. Sana, mabigyan na agad siya ng GMA ng bagong acting project after ‘I Can See You’ para hindi namin siya sobrang ma-miss sa pag-arte.”

Right now, Alden is busy preparing for his 10th anniversary virtual online concert on December 8, “Alden’s Reality”. They will be using the latest in technology to give his fans the chance to interact with him directly during the show. Directed by Paolo Valenciano, tickets at P999 for general admission are now available at http://www.gmanetwork.com/synergy.

JEREMIAH Tiangco says he’s not worried that the current “The Clash Season” will soon come up with a new champion and he might soon be relegated to the background with the coming of a new winner.

“No need to worry kasi hindi naman po ako pinababayaan ng GMA-7,” he says. “Tuluy-tuloy ang exposure ko sa ‘All Out Sundays’. Hindi lang ako kundi pati ang Season 1 winner na si Golden Canedo. At kari-release din lang po ng first single ko titled ‘Titulo’ and I’m going to other shows on radio and TV to help promote it. Available na po siya ngayon sa iTunes, Apple, Spotify and other digital music stores online and worldwide.”

This year’s “The Clash” is really a big winner with the viewers, often getting a high rating of 20 percent plus in the AGB ratings.

“We’re really proud of ‘The Clash’ dahil diyan kami na-discover ng iba pang kasama ko like sina Thea Astley and the rest from Season 1,” adds Jeremiah.

Is he willing to try going into acting? “Kung mabibigyan po ng chance, why not? As of now, panay rin ang work out ko sa gym. Baka may mag-offer na magpa-sexy ako, e. Hahahaha! Di mabuti na yung ready na ako. Dream kong mapasama sa models ng Bench Body and okay lang sa’kin to do sexy pictorials.”

He also wants to join a talent search abroad. “Yes, ang isa pong dream ko is ‘yung makasali ako sa international singing contests abroad like ‘X Factor’, ‘The Voice’, and ‘American Idol’. Sana nga, mabigyan ako ng chance na matupad ang pangarap kong ito. Palagay ko, kaya namang magpakitang gilas even to foreign audiences.”

A chance to work with the late Al Quinn

Al Quinn
Al Quinn

CONDOLENCES to the family that Director Al Quinn left behind. He was 86 years old. He started in showbiz as a dancer at the time of the late Nida Blanca and Nestor de Villa, then became a competent director.

We got the chance to work with him in 1987 when we put up the Star Awards for Television. We shared our idea of having an awards-giving body for TV with June Rufino, who was then producing other awards nights and we met with her and the president of the PMPC then, Ernie Pecho. Jun then called Direk Al Quinn and that’s how the first Star Awards for TV was born.

Direk Al is such a cool person on the set, so easy to work with. He doesn’t throw his weight around and always ready to listen to any ideas you might want to share with him. No wonder he lasted for so long in the industry. He was first married to Premiere Productions actress Lani Oteyza in the late 50s. He has a son who’s now an actor in local showbiz, Dino Pastrana. Direk Al, we pray for the repose of your soul. You will be missed!
