Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Rex Gatchalian visited the cities of Malabon and Navotas on Saturday (March 28) to oversee the distribution of Cash Relief Assistance (CRA) for motorcycle (MC) taxi riders.
A total of 694 MC taxi riders at the Malabon Sports Complex and 357 beneficiaries at the Phase 1b Multipurpose Building in NBBS Kaunlaran, Navotas City are expected to receive Php5,000 each in assistance to cushion the effects of the escalating oil prices.
During the distributions, Secretary Gatchalian shared that targeted assistance remains a primary focus of the Marcos administration to shield vulnerable transport workers from the impact of global crises.
The ongoing relief initiative is in compliance to the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr to help ease the economic burden on the local transport sector, which has been severely affected by the surging fuel prices.
Accompanying the DSWD chief in the morning payouts were DSWD spokesperson Asst. Secretary Irene Dumlao and Asst. Secretary for Community Engagement Ulysses Hermogenes Aguilar.
Also present during the payout site vists were Malabon City Mayor Jeannie Sandoval, Malabon City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) officer-in-charge Lorelie Soriano, as well as Navotas City CSWDO Head Jennifer Serrano. (KI)
