Iligan City Jail–Male Dormitory Observes Holy Week with Stations of the Cross and Siete Palabras

Iligan City — The Iligan City Jail–Male Dormitory marked Good Friday with solemn devotion, as persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) retraced Christ’s passion through the Stations of the Cross and reflected on His final utterances in the Siete Palabras.

Among those who joined was PDL Mark, whose quiet participation became a symbol of the deeper meaning behind the observance. Once burdened by despair, Mark found in the prayers and scripture a chance to confront his past and embrace hope. His journey of faith resonated with fellow PDLs, showing that even behind bars, redemption and renewal remain possible.

The Holy Week program forms part of the jail’s religious and interfaith initiative, designed to provide spiritual grounding and moral transformation for PDLs of diverse backgrounds.

City Jail Warden JCINSP Carmelo A. Corsame underscored the importance of such activities:

“Our Holy Week observance is a pathway for reflection, healing, and moral transformation. For our PDLs, faith becomes a bridge toward dignity and renewal.”

Through Mark’s story and the collective devotion of the jail community, the observance highlighted how faith-based programs can nurture resilience, encourage rehabilitation, and remind PDLs that transformation is possible even in confinement.
