Cayetano was ousted, party-list solon clarifies

FORMER Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano was ousted even before he resigned.

This was made clear by the president of the party-list groups and 1-PACMAN Rep. Mikee Romero who said it was the decision of the majority lawmakers to remove Cayetano.

In a television interview, Romero said Cayetano was ousted on October 12 when the 186 House members declared the Speaker seat vacant and then elected Marinduque Rep. Lord Allan Velasco as the new House leader.

On October 13, Cayetano tendered his irrevocable resignation through Facebook while the members of the House were voting in the plenary session to formalize the election of Velasco.

“I would like to refute this statement, 186 lawmakers elected Lord Allan Velasco as Speaker. He was ousted as Speaker of the House. October 12 at noon, we ousted the Speaker, and the same day we elected a new one,” Romero said.

“The next day October 13, Alan Peter Cayetano resigned, so I don’t think he resigned for what purpose because he was already ousted a day before. I’m just being factual,” he added.

Romero being an ally of Velasco, was removed by Cayetano as Deputy Speaker. There are three other Velasco allies who were stripped of committee chairmanships.
