DOST, partner SUCS hold 5th Regional Health Research Conference in MSU-IIT

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – The Department of Science and Technology region 10 and its partner state universities and colleges through the Northern Mindanao Consortium for Health Research and Development (NORMINCOHRD) recently conducted the 5th Regional Health Research Conference.

Iligan Medical Center College and Central Mindanao University representatives were hailed as 1st Place in the Oral Research Paper Presentation and Visual Abstract Poster Competition-Undergraduate Category, respectively. Dr. Sarah Louise S. Atulba of Bukidnon State University rose to the top during the 3-Minute Pitch to Policymakers. Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology bagged the top award in both Oral Paper Research and Visual Abstract Poster Competition represented by Dr. Charlie A. Lavilla, Jr. and Jibe Labenz L. Nebato, respectively.

The first day consisted of online presentations from the undergraduate category in Visual Abstract Poster and Oral Research Paper Presentation competitions held via Zoom. In collaboration with Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology, the face-to-face conference was conducted at the PRISM Building of the university. Presentations for the professional category of the Oral Research Paper Presentation, Visual Abstract Poster Competition, and 3-Minute Pitch to Policy Makers were the highlights during the second day. The said finalists for the different categories were competing for the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and People’s Choice Awards declared at the awarding ceremony.

Through this event, member-institutions were able to strengthen partnerships with other institutions and idealize ways forward to a better health research community in the region. On the other hand, researchers were given the opportunity to translate and present their outputs to a wider audience and reach the beneficiaries of their results.

Through a hybrid setup on November 16-18, 2022, the activity was held to showcase completed research of undergraduate students and professionals from member institutions through various competitions. The distinguished panel of judges were invited to critique the based on the set criteria provided.

The 6th Regional Health Research Conference will be held at the Bukidnon State University, Malaybalay City, Bukidnon.

The NorMinCoHRD is one of the regional health research consortia of the country under the Philippine National Health Research System (PNHRS). The consortium provides capacity building activities to its member-institutions as well as provide funding for approved health research proposals. (Jessa Aromin/DOST 10)
