Sinas alerts PNP units for disaster response

NEW Philippine National Police chief, General Debold M. Sinas yesterday placed all police units in Southern Luzon under full alert ahead of the expected landfall of tropical storm ‘Ulysses’ in Bicol and Southern Tagalog regions.

The top cop ordered all Police Regional Offices and National Support Units stationed in Southern Luzon to muster all disaster-response capability for risk reduction and public safety operations in areas along the path of the storm that will experience strong winds, heavy rains, and storm surge.

Among the preemptive measures ordered by Gen. Sinas include the prepositioning of PNP disaster response personnel, equipment and resources in perennial geohazard areas prone to flooding and landslides to implement forced evacuation of communities in these areas in coordination with Local Government Units and other agencies.

Local units were also directed to provide assistance and security to evacuation centers and temporary shelters put-up by LGU and Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office authorities where PNP Food Bank resources will also be prepositioned.
