Woman arrested for ‘fake news’ on FB

THE Quezon City Police District (QCPD) has arrested a woman for allegedly posting fake news against Mayor Joy Belmonte on her Facebook account.

QCPD Director, Police Brigadier General Danilo P. Macerin identified the accused as Ma. Cecilia Angeles Raymundo.

She was reportedly arrested on the strength of a warrant of arrest last February 3, 2021 for violation of Article 154 of the Revised Penal Code in relation to Section 6 of RA 10175 otherwise known as Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012 docketed under Criminal Case No.R-QZN-00158-CR issued by QC RTC Branch 97 Judge Rochelle S. Manuel.

Prior to the service of the arrest warrant, the Quezon City District Anti-Cybercrime Team under the leadership of PMAJ Jacqueline Ta-a filed a case against the accused on April 12, 2020 for violation of Section 6 of Republic Act 10175 or Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2002 after the pieces of evidence were confirmed, verified, documented and presented.

The report shows that the filing of the case stemmed from the PNP ACG IMPLAN regarding the creation of a task group against COVID-19 and related fake news in which the QCDACT intercepted a message posted publicly on April 1, 2020 by a certain Facebook account “Macie Angeles” who was later identified as Ma. Cecilia Angeles-Raymundo saying that she received P3,000 from Mayor Joy Belmonte and hygiene kit.

The account stated that such assistance will be given every day.

Araw-araw may 3k kada household at hygiene kit. Pwede na! Mayor wala ka naman sigurong sakit noh?,” the post states.
