2 NPA members yield in Cagayan

CAGAYAN Police Provincial Office director, Colonel Ariel N. Quilang yesterday announced the surrender of two New People’s Army members in the province following a series of talks aimed at convincing them to leave the underground movement and join the mainstream of the society.

In a report to Police Regional Office 2 director, Brigadier General Crizaldo O. Nieves, Quilang said that one of the three is a 47-year-old farmer from Rizal municipality who has been identified as a member of the NPA’s combat support unit in the province.

Quilang said the rebel surrendered to police authorities led by Lieutenant Jefferson Berida in Bgy. Poblacion 11 a.m. yesterday following the local police’s continuous ‘Bisita ni PD at COP’ program where they visit areas in the province with known considerable NPA influence and conduct talks with local residents.

The 2nd was identified as a 42-year old female farmer from Sto. Niño municipality who was identified as a member of the NPA’s Militia ng Bayan.

The female NPA member turned herself over to the local police led by Lt. Joel Guban in Bgy. Tammuco around 10 in the morning.

“We have accounted for two more rebels in the province as a result of our Bisita sa Barangay program in support to the Regional Task Force to End Local Armed Conflict,” said Quilang in referring to the directive of Brig. Gen. Nieves for all Cagayan Valley police units to help convince more NPA members in the region to yield and avail of comprehensive livelihood packages being offered by the government.
