Authorities in Full Control of Situation Amid Explosion in Cotabato City

CAMP SIONGCO, Maguindanao – Government troops under Joint Task Group Kutawato (JTGK) responded immediately to an explosion which transpired along Tamontaka River, Lower Bubong, Kalanganan 2, Cotabato City on Wednesday evening, May 4, 2022.

Initial investigation disclosed that two (2) unidentified persons threw something at the back of a motorized boat docked in the riverfront of Tamontaka River. A loud explosion was then heard.

The motorized boat is owned by a certain Datu Manot Sinsuat, a resident of Brgy Resa, Datu Blah Sinsuat, Maguindanao.

Cotabato City ExplosionColonel Jose Ambrosio Rustia, Commander of Joint Task Group Kutawato said, “The explosion happened at 6:40 p.m. wherein a certain Mustapha Katug Molo (boat captain) and some of his crew members saw the two (2) unidentified persons wearing short pants, long sleeved shirt and black hoodie. Both approached and threw something at the back part of the motorized bangka, then fled towards west direction”.

“There was no casualty in the incident as the boat captain and his crew were off the boat preparing dinner in the covered hall about 30 meters away. The motive of the incident is still to be determined”, Col. Rustia added.

The JTGK and the personnel of Cotabato City Police Office under Police Colonel Rommel Javier proceeded to the incident area to facilitate the investigation.

Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Team also proceeded to the incident area and assisted the PNP EOD in the conduct of post blast investigation.

Recovered from the scene were two (2) safety pins from fragmentation grenade.

Major General Juvymax Uy, 6th Infantry Division and Joint Task Force Central Commander said, “Bombing causes serious harm not only to the residents, but also to the environment. We condemn the grenade throwing as terror act that led to damage of property. We, the government security forces, especially the JTFC, will not waver in our efforts to continue our mandated duty to protect the lives and properties of the residents of Cotabato City and Central Mindanao. Rest assured that the JTFC and the 6ID will double our efforts to bring about peace and security especially in the upcoming elections”, Maj. Gen. Uy added.
