Due to Mayon Volcano and Mount Bulusan’s increasing unrest, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) issued a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) dated October 13, 2022.

CAAP spokesman Eric Apolonio said that as such, flights have been prohibited to operate 10,000 feet from the surface and are advised to avoid flying close to the volcano’s summit as ash from any sudden eruption can be hazardous to aircraft.

For Mayon Volcano, CAAP issued NOTAM B3147/22 revising B3137/22 effective 13 October 2022 from 8:47 a.m. until 9 a.m. of October 14, 2022 while for Mount Bulusan, NOTAM B3148/22 revising B3143/22 was issued effective October 13, 2022, at 8:48 a.m. until 14 October 2022, at 9 a.m.

“Mayon Volcano and Bulusan Volcano are placed on Alert Level 2 and Alert Level 1, respectively. In an advisory, DOST-PHIVOLCS said the Mayon Volcano Network did not detect any volcanic earthquakes in the past 24-hour period,” said Apolonio.

The CAAP operates seven airports in the Bicol Region, namely: Bulan Airport, Sorsogon Airport, Daet Airport, Masbate Airport, Naga Airport, Virac Airport, and Bicol International Airport.
