As part of its effort to strengthen its disaster response operations, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), through its Field Office I, is constructing a satellite warehouse in Laoag City, Ilocos Norte to serve as a repository of relief goods and supplies in the region.

On May 17, DSWD Secretary Rolando Joselito D. Bautista spearheaded the soft inauguration of the DSWD satellite warehouse in Barangay Camangaan, Laoag City in celebration of its near completion.

Expected to be operational in February 2023, this Php 50-million worth project will serve as a storage facility for relief goods and other stockpiles of DSWD to be used during disasters, calamities, and human-induced hazards in the region and nearby areas, such as some municipalities in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) and Region 2.

“This will surely increase the capacity and efficiency of the Field Office in the production and storage of the relief items. Likewise, this would ensure that Food and Non-Food Items (FNFI) will be available and distributed immediately to the affected population,” Secretary Bautista emphasized.

The DSWD is committed to enhance its service delivery through the construction of various facilities geared toward bringing social protection packages closer to communities.
