Jamie to go all out

SOUTHEAST Asian Games karate gold medalist Jamie Lim will go all-out to secure a spot in the coronavirus-stalled Tokyo Olympics.

It’s gonna be a long shot, kasi everyone will wanna join and everyone wants to be part of the Olympics,” said Lim, the daughter of Philippine basketball legend Samboy Lim, during an appearance on “The Chasedown” over the weekend.

And this is really the last shot (for the Olympics),” she added. “Pero kakayanin po.

Lim was one of two Filipinas to win gold in karate in the SEA Games, ruling the +61kg division.

Junna Tsukii was the country’s other gold medal winner in the sport, topping the -50kg class. Both athletes, along with Fil-Am Joane Orbon, are still in the hunt for an Olympic berth.

They expect to compete in the final qualification tournament that will be held in Paris, France on June 11-13.

Karate will be contested in the Olympic Games for the first time and Lim hopes to be a part of history.

Lim, together with other members of the Philippine karate team, are set to do bubble training starting this week at the INSPIRE Sports Academy in Calamba, Laguna.

Early last year, Lim won a gold medal in the UKF Premier League Kharkiv Open 2020, the only tournament the University of the Philippines graduate competed, in Kharkiv, Ukraine.

It was Lim’s first competition since beating Indonesia’s Ceyco Zefanya in the SEA Games women’s individual +61 kg. kumite final in 2019.
