IN the fight against the highly-contagious and deadly coronavirus disease-19 (COVID-19), there’s something that should not be ignored by concerned government authorities.
It’s the vital role played by “social media” in monitoring quarantine protocol violations, such as mass gatherings, drinking sessions and non-wearing of face masks,across the country.
Aware of this, Lt/General Guillermo Lorenzo T. Eleazar, commander of Joint Task Force (JTF) Covid-19 Shield, has ordered all police commanders to regularly monitor the “social media.”
Note that some Facebook pages feature photos and videos of various quarantine protocol violations captured by closed circuit televisions (CCTVs) and dash cams in various parts of the country.
These are posted by well-meaning netizens, while others inadvertently post pictures and videos of celebrations they attend.
The social media are full of photos and evidence of hard-headed people deliberately violating quarantine protocols, according to Eleazar, the new PNP deputy chief for administration.
He said these pieces of evidence will be used to warn, fine or summon suspected quarantine protocol violators.
Now the number two man in the police hierarchy, Eleazar called on the Filipino people to help the PNP in going after quarantine protocol violators, including police officers and men.
PNP Officer-in-Charge (OIC) Lt/Gen. Camilo Pancratius “Pikoy” P. Cascolan vowed to impose utmost disciplinary action on any policeman who would be caught violating quarantine protocols.
The Baguio City-born Cascolan, a member of Class 1986 of the Philippine Military Academy, said that that anybody who enforces the law should also follow the law that he or she is implementing.
