Dr. Pio Valenzuela Scholarship Program Calls for New Applicants

Dr. Pio Valenzuela Scholarship

Valenzuela City started accepting scholarship applications for incoming first year college students last January 3, the application form can be submitted until February 24, 2023.

The examination is scheduled on March 12, 2023. The program is open to applicants whose employed parents’ Annual Gross Income is not more than PhP 120,000 as attested by the 2021 Income Tax Return (ITR). If parents are unemployed, an Affidavit and Certificate of Non-filing of ITR must be submitted. If parents are working abroad, an Employment Contract and their latest 2 months’ remittance must be submitted.

The scholarship grants underprivileged Grade 12 students. Thus, a Certified True Copy of Grade 10 and 11 Report Cards must be submitted in addition to their Certified True Copy of Grade 12 first semester Report Card, both with no subject grades lower than 85 and a Gross Weighted Average (GWA) not lower than 85%.

Only candidates who meet the requirements in full and are qualified will be processed. The student must be a natural-born Filipino citizen, a long-term resident in Valenzuela City, and a graduate of any public or private senior high school in the city in order to be eligible for the scholarship program. Subject to verification by the barangay and academic records, students who have lived in the city for at least four years may also qualify.

Under the scholarship, the grantee is entitled to PhP 30,000 annually or PhP 15,000 per semester for any chosen course and school in public or private colleges and universities— as long as accredited by The Commission on Higher Education (CHED). To maintain the scholarship, the grade should not be lower than 2.25, while the general average of 2.00 per semester is required until they graduate.

Named after homegrown Filipino hero, Dr. Pio Valenzuela, the scholarship program was instituted through Municipal Council Ordinance No. 12 of 1995 which was amended through City Ordinance No. 37, Series of 2009. Dr. Pio Valenzuela Scholarship Program has been granting financial assistance to marginalized but competent, consistent, and of good moral character students for 28 years now.
