Malabon aims higher

MALABON Mayor Antolin Oreta took pride in being awarded with the Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), testifying the city’s accomplishments despite being one of the “low-lying-flood-prone areas” in the Metropolitan Manila.

Taking care of the Malabonians’ state of health, Oreta disclosed his nutrition programs reducing malnutrition rate more than half to 6.94% from 16.3% in 2013.

The city executive attributed this to the concerted efforts of the city nutrition team led by its Action Officer and his better half, Chef Melissa Sison-Oreta, who spearheaded the innovative 90-day supplemental feeding program evolving to the ‘Karinderia para sa   (KKC)’ and the ‘Buntis-Chikiting Patrollers (ButChiPats),’ aimed at improving the health conditions of mothers and children alike.

The services of the Ospital ng Malabon (OsMal) were also enhanced recently.

Livelihood programs on the other hand focused on aiding employment as well as training and augmenting livelihood capabilities of Malabonian entrepreneurs.

Oreta reported on the Senior Patrollers and Techie na sina Lolo’t Lola as among projects improving the productivity and stature of the city elders.

In education, school building classrooms and child development centers were either constructed or repaired, more teachers were hired and trained, the city public library was technologically improved and the City of Malabon University (CMU) was leveled-up at global standards with enhanced curriculums and academic programs, all to cater to thousands of students, learners and scholars.

The City of Malabon Polytechnic Institute (CMPI), with its entrepreneurial center, has boosted the technical-vocational capabilities of its students, while sharing its expert service to various household and industrial endeavors.

Oreta further elaborated on numerous infrastructure projects complementing his program on children’s welfare, peace and order, housing, flood mitigation/disaster resilience, anti-illegal drugs campaigns, sports enhancement especially among youths, among others.

Attesting to the quantifiable accomplishments aside from the SGLG are citations from the National Nutrition Council (NNC), Regional Peace and Order Council (RPOC), Philippine National Police (PNP), Philippine Drug Enforcement Administration (PDEA), Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) and the Bureau of Local Government Finances-Department of Finance (BLGF-DOF).

With commendation for good financial housekeeping, the Oreta administration won the trust and confidence of its taxpayers, raising Malabon as a billionaire in generated revenues amounting to P1.76 billion in 2018 from a meager P836,897,265.69 in 2012.

For such,Oreta vowed  to sustain the city’s growth through more public-service-oriented-projects such as the 3-storey ‘Bulwagang Kalinga’ building for the Senior Citizen, Social Welfare and Development and Urban poor clients of Malabon.

Action centers, ‘super health centers,’parks and multi-purpose halls are also in line for construction or rehabilitation, while other vital public facilities will be attended to.

“In Information and Communication Technology Development, 27 free wifi services shall be installed throughout the city to keep us in touch to the World Wide Web,” Oreta said.

DILG Regional Director Juan Jovian E. Ingeniero awarded  the P5.1 million Performance Challenge Fund (PCF) owing to the granting of SGLG to the city.

On the use of ‘naten’ instead of ‘natin’ in his mantra “Instead of natin with only an ‘I’ in its tin, to me,” Oreta said, “TEN is a better syllable representing the multitude of Malabonians in unison towards a common goal of progress and development.”

With utmost family-centered values, Oreta ascribed to the advancement of Pamilyang Malabonianas the main driving force for his unrelenting public service.

“These were all achieved with everyone’s help and hard work, thus let us pursue further!” …sa tulong po ninyo, lahat KINAYA NATEN at muli ay sama-samang ITULOY NATEN!,” he said.
