A PLEA was made by Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna to the residents of Manila, not to go swimming in the beaches of Baseco and Dolomite or Manila Bay.

Lacuna particularly warned that the coliform in the said beaches is so high that taking a swim there will be extremely risky and poses serious danger to one’s health.

“So please, please, nananawagan kami. Bawal lumangoy sa Baseco at Dolomite beach,” the mayor, a doctor, said.

She said that a real-time water quality monitoring equipment had been installed, through the help of the DENR-EMB National Capital Region at the Baywalk and Baseco beaches.

Through the said system, Lacuna said it was found out that the coliform in the said beaches was way beyond the allowable.

Kita niyo gaano kalaki, bumaba pa yan sa totoo lang,” the lady mayor said.

The mayor also asked for the understanding of the residents and even of those who are not from Manila, if they will be barred from swimming in the said place.

Real-time water quality refers to in-stream water-quality measurements made available on the web in real-time. The objectives of the system is to measure various chemical and physical properties of water like pH, temperature and particle density of water using sensors.
