PNP boatmen rescue 13 tourists in Palawan

SEABORNE officers from the Philippine National Police Maritime Group on Sunday night rescued 13 distressed passengers of a motorized boat stranded off the coast of Puerto Princesa City, a report to PNP chief, General Debold M. Sinas said yesterday.

According to the report, the motorized indigenous boat M/B JKJ skippered by Joemar Mueden with 12 local tourists on board was stranded due to engine trouble and rough seas along the coastal waters of Bgys. Manalo and Maruguyon in Puerto Princesa City around 8 p.m. Sunday.

Officers from the PNP Maritime Group’s 2nd Special Operations Unit aboard the Dauntless Class Police Patrol Boat 007 rescued the distressed passengers and safely brought them ashore.

The boat had just come from Isla Puting Buhangin in Bgy. Manalo when it experienced engine trouble along the way amid a heavy downpour and rolling waves, the report said.

Rescued were Rolando Sta. Maria, Phil Mesaje, Paul Castillo, Joy Villarias, Christian Zamora, Regie Camama, Ambrocio Alolod Jr., Renalyn Monleon, Maricar Monleon, Raymond Evangelista, Ricky Doronila, and Joana Mueden.
