MANILA Mayor Isko Moreno yesterday thanked all those who have expressed sympathies on the passing of his mother over the weekend, with a call for everyone to show their love, concern and gratitude to their parents and grandparents while they are still around.
His mother Rosario passed on at age 74, a day after Moreno and his Joaquin celebrated their 46th and 19th birthday, respectively on October 24. She succumbed to an illness that lingered for years, with the mayor consistently by her side.
“Taos-pusong pasasalamat sa inyong lahat,” was Moreno’s message to all those who condoled with him in his time of grief, saying that instead of sending flowers, sympathizers may just offer prayers for the eternal repose of his mother.
“Suklian ninyo ng pagmamahal at pagmamalasakit ang inyong mga magulang, lolo at lola habang sila ay nabubuhay pa. Alalahanin natin ang lahat ng sakripisyo nila sa pagtaguyod sa atin bilang mga anak,” Moreno said.
In his speech at the flag-raising ceremony which he still led yesterday along with the department heads meeting, Moreno assured the citizens of Manila that despite the adversity in life that he is going through, governance will continue in the city.
Indeed, he fired a series of directives yesterday aimed at addressing the floods and families affected.
During the regular meeting of heads of departments and bureaus, Moreno ordered Manila Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (MDRMMO) chief Arnel Angeles and Manila social welfare department chief Re Fugoso to mobilize their staff in connection with the rains.
It was learned that these departments already have a template of what should be done in case of emergency situations like typhoon.
Threatened families were ordered evacuated and given basic needs like food and toiletries.
