A SIMPLE thank you is enough to get me going.

Thus said Manila Mayor Isko Moreno, who said that despite the difficult challenges being hurled his way due to the pandemic, he draws inspiration from knowing that he had somehow put a smile on the faces of the residents of Manila.

Moreno said that reading, seeing and hearing people happy and thankful for experiencing any of the services being given by the city government is enough to make his day.

“When you say thank you, ‘yan ang nagbibigay sa akin ng inspirasyon at lakas ng loob that things are being put to proper order at nahawakan ninyo…tangible,” the mayor said.

“A simple thank you say ‘energizer’ ko. It is proof that people receive the intended services from the LGU (local government unit),” he added.

Moreno likewise asked the residents to thank those delivering food boxes to their respective homes and the social workers who distribute the SAP (special amelioration program) funds from the national government.

He said small words expressing gratitude for the government workers is nothing compared to the risks they face amid the pandemic just to be able to deliver services beyond the call of duty and past their normal working hours.

Among these personnel, he said, are those from the Manila Traffic and Parking Bureau (MTPB) under Dennis Viaje, the city engineer’s office under Armand Andres, the department of public services under Kenneth Amurao, Manila Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office headed by Arnel Angeles and the social welfare department under Re Fugoso.

“Basta umasa kayo na di namin kayo iiwan ni Vice Mayor Honey Lacuna. Kaligayahan naming na mapaglingkuran kayo. Masaya kami sa ginagawa namin para sa inyo at wala akong ibang paghuhugutan ng kaligayahan. Lima singko ang problema ngayon. Di pa ko naghihilamos at goli, problema na agad. Lahat siguro ng public servant pag nakatanggap ng ‘thank you’ ayos na ang buto-buto.”

Moreno, citing the happiness on the faces of senior citizens as soon as they receive their birthday cakes and allowances from the city, said: “ Tunaw na tunaw ako sa appreciation ninyo at dahil diyan ay nai-inspire kami para sinupin ang pananalapi ng lungsod. I don’t care gaano man kabagal dahil ang data na hinawakan ko ay bulok. Kahit nahirapan kami, ang mahalaga ay kung nakamit ba.”

Among others, the mayor cited his previous revelation that 154,000 senior citizens are listed in Manila but are actually in the provinces.
