Woman killed in crossfire during street argument

A FEMALE health frontliner from UST Hospital was killed in a crossfire between three businessmen and two men aboard a motorcycle who were said to be arguing before one of the duo fired at the direction of the businessmen the other night in Sta. Cruz, Manila.

PEMS Erickson Aguilar, of the Manila Police District-Homicide Section, identified the fatality as Sheena Tiongson, 29, who died due to a gunshot wound in the body.

Now being treated at the Jose Reyes Memorial Medical Center (JRMMC) are Ceasar Santos, 39; Ricardo Candaza, 52 and Victor Barraca, 37, all of Sta. Cruz, Manila.

Police said the incident occurred at 10:20 p.m. in front of the Pearl Blossom Hotel on Rizal Avenue in Sta. Cruz.

Investigation showed the victims and the suspects were arguing for still unclear reasons. In the middle of the argument, one of the suspects fired several times at the direction of the victims, hitting Tiongson who was at the scene.

The suspects then sped away toward Claro M. Recto Avenue’s westbound lane and made escaped, leaving the four bloodied on the street.

Police are investigating to establish the identities of the suspects and the motive behind the shooting.
