Manila Police District- Special Mayor’s Reaction Team (MPD-SMaRT) operatives arrested two holduppers after their victim, a dental assistant, managed to follow them and then sought help from the police when she got the chance.
The incident, according to SMaRT chief Maj. Edward Samonte, took place at the corner of Taft Avenue and Kalaw Avenue in Ermita, Manila.
Now in the custody of the police are suspects Ryan Jasmin, 21, of Brgy. Jolo, Mandaluyong City and John Lloyd Beconia,19 of No. 1467 Int. 75, Gomez St., Paco, Manila.
Samonte said that at around 11:30 a.m. last March 31, the victim, a 19-year-old female dental assistant, of Tower 2, Robinsons Place Residence, Ermita, Manila, was aboard a passenger jeep when the suspects boarded and declared a holdup.
After getting her cellphone, the suspects quickly got off the jeep and threatened the victim not to create any scene.
The victim also got off and discreetly followed the suspects. When she saw policemen patrolling the area, she sought their help and the policemen gave chase until they cornered the duo.
The cellphone of the victim was recovered and the two were charged violation of Article 293 (robbery) of the Revised Penal Code before the Manila Prosecutor’s Office.
