Cop in hot water over chicken drumsticks

Quarantine violators ‘bribe’ suspect with 3K

A POLICE official is facing a charge of indirect bribery for allegedly accepting three kilos of chicken drumsticks from a group of motorcycle riders that he allowed to pass from a quarantine control point even without pertinent documents.

Police Lieutenant Rodrigo Olaso, 43, presently assigned to the District Mobile Force Batallion of the QCPD, was held by his fellow who stand as complainants in the said case.

The complainants were identified as PMSG Roberto G. Telan JR, PCPL Alexis L. Licyayo, PCPL John Paul Rebustes and PCPL Jericho Bautista, all assigned to the QCPD-DMFB.

A report from the Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit of the QCPD showed the incident occurred at around 8:15 a.m.,November 2, 2020 along Batasan-San. Mateo Road, Bgy. Batasan, Quezon City.

According to officer on case PSMS Marvin P. Masangkay, operatives of the QCPD-DMFB led by Olaso along with the complainants were dispatched to the Quarantine Control Point (QCP) at the said place when the group of motorcycle riders failed to produce pertinent documents such as deed of sale of their motorcycles.

The violators were reportedly allowed to pass the QCP. However, few minutes later two of them returned with a plastic bag containing more or less three kilos of chicken drumsticks apparently as a gift for the policemen.

The complainants reportedly refused to receive the bribe and instead instructed the riders to give the chicken drumsticks to the policeman who demanded it which was Olaso.

Thus the riders gave the chicken drumsticks to Olaso.

The incident was reported to the office of DMFB-QCPD by the complainants led by Telan which was the basis of the arrest of Olaso. He was subsequently turned over to QCPD-CIDU for investigation and proper disposition.
