Glaiza tells Angelica to get off the fire

ANGELICA Panganiban celebrated her 34th birthday on November 4 in her own online show, “Ask Angelica”, and one of her guests was Director Olivia Lamasan, who directed her in 1997 in “Hanggang Kailan Kita Mamahalin?”, for which she was nominated as best child actress. Direk Olive asked her what other role would she like to play now and she said she wants to play a lesbian on the big screen.

“I’ve played a lesbian in ‘Maalaala Mo Kaya’ before, but siempre, play safe ‘yun and tame kasi made for TV,” she says. “Sa film, you can express and show a lot more, di ba?”

What kind of film will she avoid doing? “I don’t close my doors sa kahit anong role or project, but what I learned is that don’t allow na masira ‘yung friendship mo dahil lang sa isang project. When I got to work with an ex of mine, nanghinayang ako sa friendship namin before starting the film, kasi nasira yung friendship nang mapasukan ng kashowbisan.”

She’s obviously referring to ex-BF Carlo Aquino (who’s now a dad with a baby daughter). When they did the movie “Exes Baggage” (a big hit), there was a rumor that they’re reconciling not only in the movie but also in real life.

This not doubt helped promote the movie, but the “pagbabalikan” never happened, and Angelica never hid her disappointment as she obviously hoped for the reconciliation that never came. Up to now, even if Carlo were amenable to being friends with her again, she prefers not to speak to him and has declared she’s not willing to work with him again.

She was bashed for this, with people saying she’s bitter and cannot move on. Recently, she got bashed again when she made fun of our president who was missing at the height of Typhoon Rolly. She wrote: “Ano nang plano? Tulog-tulog na lang? Kilos-kilos naman alang-alang sa sinumpaan para sa bayan.”

Of course, she was quickly attacked by Duterte trolls, specially after Duterte surfaced later and even went to Bicol to visit typhoon victims. Some of the remarks hurled against her were really so bad and her best friend, Glaiza de Castro, says she’s somehow affected by all the nasty bashings.

“Yung iba kasi, sobra na, ang foul na, below the belt,” says Glaiza. “Ilang beses na siyang nasasaktan. May mga times na hindi ko kayang mag-comfort. Nakakalungkot kasi alam ko kung anong klaseng tao siya. Hindi mo rin naman kasi maku-control kung ano ang sasabihin ng ibang tao kasi katwiran nila we have freedom of speech. So ang sabi ko sa kanya, tigil-tigilan na niya muna yung social media. Pahinga muna. Lumabas muna siya.”

Malou Choa Fagar

MALOU Choa Fagar, the well-loved COO of TAPE who’s been with “Eat Bulaga” since it started airing more than 40 years ago, is celebrating her nth birthday on November 12 and we’re excited because, since the lockdown started eight long months ago, we will have a reunion and see each other again for her natal day.

Last year, Ms. Malou had a big birthday celebration and many of her showbiz friends, and also all her talents, were there in attendance to celebrate with her. But this year, it will be a very exclusive celebration because of the pandemic, with only us members of the Wednesday Club in attendance.

We are not even allowed to disclose the location as there might be well meaning gate crashers who’d want to personally greet Ms. Malou. We are all very careful and are following strict health protocol procedures.

A very important guest, who is an official member of Wednesday Club, will not be invited to make sure she will remain in good health and not get infected by the dreaded virus. We surely will miss her. To Ms. Malou, our best wishes for more birthdays and blessings to come!
