PNP wants P190.9B budget in 2021

THE Philippine National Police has presented to Congress its proposed 2021 budget of P190.846 billion under the 2021 National Expenditure Program, PNP chief, General Camilo Pancratius P. Cascolan announced yesterday.

The top cop said that a huge chunk or 89 percent of their proposed budget will go to personnel services including the salary and allowances of 228,000 police personnel as well as their retirement and life insurance premiums.

Another nine percent will go to PNP Maintenance and Other Operating Expenses or MOOE and two percent for Capital Outlays or the procurement of new equipment, development of new infrastructure and recruitment.

Gen. Cascolan said that the proposed 2021 PNP budget is 1.7 percent higher than the Php187.620-billion PNP Budget under the 2020 General Appropriations Act.

“It should be noted, however, that appropriations for Capital Outlays is significantly reduced by as much as 14 percent or roughly P566-million in the 2021 proposed PNP budget, while budget for MOOE was reduced by 2 percent or roughly P436.45-million,” he explained.

Budget for capital outlays are needed by the force to further improve its ‘move, shoot, communicate and investigate capabilities’ in the war against drugs, criminality, corruption and rogues in uniform, the PNP chief said.
