Due to the worsening situation of global warming and the city’s desire to have more green spaces, the City Government of Valenzuela partnered with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) – NCR, PAMANA Transport Services Inc., St. Martin of Tours Trailways, Inc., and San Miguel Brewery Inc., to institute the environmental campaign called “Urban Greening Program,” held at the local housing project of the city, the Disiplina Village – Bignay, November 4.
A conglomerate of volunteers from Integrated Community Food Production (ICFP), DENR – NCR, and drivers and conductors from PAMANA Transport Services Inc., and St. Martin of Tours Trailways Inc., have planted over two hundred (200) Bougainvilleas, fifty (50) ornamental Bamboo trees and seven (7) Molave trees around the spacious pavements of Disiplina Village – Bignay.
Mr. Audi Secerio of the PAMANA Transport, on the other hand, is fully aware how the transportation companies like them contribute to the pollution. They support these kinds of initiatives in order to help alleviate air quality condition in the city. Aside from participating in tree-planting activities, they have already changed their car engines to new models that releases small amount of chemicals that could harm the environment.
“Batid namin na ang mga sasakyan ay nagdudulot ng pollution. Bilang ang aming kumpanya ay nabibilang sa [sector ng] transportasyon, kaya naman ang mga ganitong proyekto ay malapit sa aming puso, dahil gusto naming pong kahit papaano [ay] makontrol ‘yung polusyon na naidudulot ng mga sasakyan,” he said. [We know that cars cause pollution. As our company belongs to the [sector of] transportation, that’s why such projects are close to our hearts, because we want to somehow control the pollution caused by vehicles]
Environmental research show that global warming continues to worsen, it greatly affects the climate of our country. Because of this, our country is facing serious environmental problems such as warming and rising oceans, hotter temperatures, droughts, more severe storms, gradual depletion of species, and health risks.
The Local Government of Valenzuela City continues its objective in providing its constituents more green spaces and transforming the city to a more livable haven.
