Mayor vows to serve public despite death threats

MARIVELES, Bataan — Amid threats to her life, killing of her close ally, and various forms of harassments, Mayor Jocelyn P. Castañeda has vowed to buckle down to work with sincerity and transparency in her administration.

This was the assurance of Mayor Castañeda or JoCas as fondly called by friends and relatives, who said that the threats to her life, killing of Jonathan dela Cruz, head of the town’s Management Information Service, and other forms of harassment being perpetreated by her foes, will not deter her from continuing to serve the public.

Ang ginagawa nilang (political foes) pananakot, pagpatay kay Jonathan at iba pang panggipit at paninira ay hindi ito hadlang sakin na maglingkod. Bagkus lalo pa kaming tumatapang,” said the lady lawyer who became mayor of this town despite spending nothing during the election.

Some described the victory of Mayor JoCas as ‘Divine intervention’ for not buying votes for she does not have the wherewithal to spend in the last election, so to speak.

The killing of dela Cruz has earned the ire of the public as he was mercilessly murdered by two gunmen in front of his house, in what Mayor JoCas and her allies believed as politically-motivated.

But Mayor JoCas said this will not deter her to further serve the public, saying “she will be more determined and courageous to continue working for the benefit of the Mariveleños.
