A male Chinese national who attempted to depart by presenting a Philippine passport was intercepted by Bureau of Immigration (BI) officers at the Caticlan International airport in Boracay, Aklan.

According to a report to BI Commissioner Norman Tansingco, the Chinese national was identified as Zhou Jintao, 24. He was immediately arrested and turned over to the BI’s warden facility in Bicutan, Taguig pending deportation proceedings.

Zhou reportedly presented himself before immigration officers using a passport under the name Jansen Tan.

Tansingco said that apart from his passport, he also presented a Philippine PWD ID, a postal card, a Tax Identification Number ID, a National Bureau of Investigation clearance, and birth certificate indicating that he was born in Sibulan, Santa Cruz, Davao Del Sur to a Filipino mother and a Chinese father.

Upon inspection, the officer noted that Zhou was unable to speak Filipino or any local language.

Also during the interview, he admitted that he is a Chinese citizen even as a check of his travel record in the BI database showed that Zhou last arrived in the country on June 30, 2019.
