MANILA Mayor Honey Lacuna announced with pride the accreditation of a good number of child daycare centers and daycare workers in the city.

This, she said, is a big boost to the social services program of the city as it continues to provide basic needs to Manilans.

Lacuna congratulated Manila department of social welfare head Re Fugoso and her staff for having gained such accreditation and expressed optimism that eventually, all of the city’s daycare centers and daycare workers will be accredited.

It was learned from Fugoso that the second batch of accreditation went to 142 child development centers and 156 daycare workers.

Currently, she said that the accreditation processes for the third batch is ongoing. The total number of daycare teachers in the city is 420.

“Balita ko, ang third batch ay ongoing na ang accreditation. Sana, lahat ng centers and workers ay tuluyang ma-accredit,” said Lacuna.

The recognition of daycare centers comes from the Early Childhood Care Development (ECCD) Council and the national government’s Department of Social Welfare Development.

It provides empowerment of Child Development Workers (formerly called Daycare Teachers).

The ECCD system is a comprehensive, integrated and multi-sectoral approach centered on providing children with nurturing care. This program facilitates access to health services from pregnancy to 35 months old to promote the physical growth and development of the child.
