THE Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Friday night confirmed that Secretary Teodoro Locsin, Jr. was invited by China to further strengthen Manila and Beijing bilateral relations and discuss cooperation on various fronts under the “new normal”.

Locsin flew to China Friday for a three-day official visit where he will have a bilateral meeting with his Chinese counterpart State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

“Upon the invitation of Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi, Secretary of Foreign Affairs Teodoro L. Locsin, Jr. will undertake an Official Visit to the People’s Republic of China from 09 to 11 October 2020,” the DFA said.

This is Locsin’s first official trip overseas since February 2020 after the outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

The DFA said the two officials are scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting to discuss the advancement of Philippines-China cooperation and the revitalization of engagement across various fronts, under the “new normal”.

“Both Ministers will also discuss regional and global topics of mutual interest,” the DFA added.
