Motorcycle rider dies in EDSA mishap

A MOTORCYCLE rider died while one of his two back riders was seriously injured when they figured in a road accident along EDSA at 12 a.m. Friday in Caloocan city.

Ferdinand Etrata, 26, with address stated on his driver’s license at Taberna, Bauang, La Union succumbed to severe head and body injuries while being rushed to the East Avenue Medical Center while Kennie Ray Mendoza, 26,of 1436 Gana Compound Unang Sigaw Balintawak, Quezon City, sustained injuries in the body and is under observation at the same hospital.

Caloocan acting chief of police P/Lt. Col. Ilustre Mendoza said the third back rider, identified as Jeamar Lopez, 35, of BF Martinville, Las Pinas City, suffered minor bruises.

Traffic investigators P/MSgt. Fernan Romero and Cpl. Andy Atendido said Etrata, who was driving a single motorcycle without plate number, was travelling along EDSA towards Balintawak when he hit the rear right portion of an aluminum van (PYQ-739) driven by Orlando Rirao, 45 of San Antonio, Bacac, Bataan which was crossing EDSA towards A. De Jesus Street.

Due to the strong impact, the driver of the motorcycle and one of this back riders were thrown off and landed on the pavement while the third back rider also fell to the ground.

The driver of the aluminum van surrendered to the police and was presented for inquest proceedings before the Caloocan City Prosecutor’s Office on charges for reckless imprudence resulting in homicide, serious physical injury and damage to property.
