SAN JOSE CITY – The city government on Tuesday unveiled its COVID-19 vaccination plan as City Mayor Mario “Kokoy” Salvador expressed his preference for the use of the AstraZeneca vaccine due to its high efficacy rate and for being cheaper than other vaccine brands available so far.
This came out as the local inter-agency task force led by Salvador met with Department of Health representatives to discuss the local vaccination program to be rolled put by city government against the coronavirus-19 disease.
“Tinalakay rito ang mga alintuntunin na kailangang sundin sa pagbabakuna, ang prayoridad na kailangang mabakunahan, ilan ang dapat mabakunahan sa buong populasyon ng lungsod at ang mga brand ng bakuna na maaring gamitin,” said the city government on its Facebook page posted on Tuesday.
Salvador said he prefers to use the AstraZeneca vaccine for his constituents, noting that it is cheaper and has a high efficacy rating according to clinical trial results and studies made by scientists.
The city’s COVID-19 vaccination program also targets to inoculate at least 75 percent of the population in order to obtain so-called herd immunity against the COVID-19 virus.
The city population office reported that there are about 111,000 individuals aged 16 and above recorded in the city.
Alona Diwa, DOH development management officer in Nueva Ecija, said each COVID-19 vaccine brand that will arrive has its own information leaflet which will be given to the public before it is used.
“Mayroon ding counselling na magaganap bago bakunahan ang isang indibiduwal,” Diwa added.
Dr. Marissa Bunao-Henke, city health officer said the IATF will formulate a detailed micro-plan for a smooth implementation of the city’s vaccination program.
