MANILA Mayor Honey Lacuna has ordered a composite team from City Hall to make the rounds of public markets to make sure that the weighing scales being used are properly calibrated.

This, she said, is to protect the hapless marketgoers from falling prey to the possibility of schemes of some unscrupulous vendors.

The lady mayor said the city government will do everything within its power to ensure that the consumers are not duped of their hard-earned money.

“Sa mga manininda ng karne, baboy, isda at gulay, may continued inspection para tiyakin na tama ang presyo at ang timbangan ay walang pandaraya,” she said.

In line with this, Lacuna also directed a continued inspection of public markets to ensure that the workers are covered by appropriate health certificates.

This, she said, is aimed at ensuring that the raw food, meat, fish and vegetables being sold by the vendors are clean and handled with utmost safety.

Meanwhile, the lady mayor announced the confiscation of P250,000 worth of smuggled chicken breasts from China.

Lacuna personally inspected the seized chicken breasts that were found in a warehouse in Tondo by the Veterinary Inspection Board (VIB).

The mayor directed the filing of appropriate charges against those behind the said irregularity and for the said chicken breasts to be destroyed.
