3 nabbed for assaulting officer, frustrated homicide

THREE men were charged with direct assault upon agent of person in authority, frustrated homicide and grave threat in Lipa City, Batangas on Monday.

Lipa City Police Station chief Lt. Col. Lory E. Tarrazona identified the victim as PSSG Paolo Oro Perez.

Perez identified the suspects as Jeffrey Santander, Mario Berido, and Rodante Pesigan.

The three suspects were arrested by the Lipa City Special Weapons and Tactics team at around 5 p.m. in Bgy. Kayumangi, Lipa City.

Initial investigation showed Oro along with his nephews Timothy Oro, Jonathan Oro, and Aaron Oro went to the barangay hall to help settle a misunderstanding between two groups whose basketball game inside a subdivision ended in an altercation.

Oro said Santander’s group attacked them when they arrived at the barangay hall.

The victim added the group grabbed his service firearm, a Glock 17 9MM Pistol.

Pesigan then allegedly shot Oro but missed.

Tarrazona said they recovered Oro’s weapon and found a fired cartridge casing and two live bullets for a caliber 9MM at the place of the incident.
