8 Chinese, Pinoy cohort in KFR nabbed

National Bureau of Investigation officials headed by Director Dante Gierran present to media the kidnap-for-ransom suspects.

THE National Bureau of Investigation arrested eight Chinese and a Filipino who were involved in kidnapping Chinese nationals in Manila and torturing them to force their families abroad to pay huge ransom.

NBI Director Dante Gierran identified the suspects as Ben Tan, Haitao Wang, Dechun Qin, Yong Fei Chan, Xiao Qiang Yang, Dong Zheng Wen, Beijun Lin, Jun Wang, and Jomar Lozada Demandante.

The suspects were arrested during a raid on  their hideout in Manuel 4-A Subdivision in Las Piñas City, last July 11.

Initial investigation showed the suspects abducted a Chinese victim from the posh Okada Manila.

According to the victim, the suspects ordered him to call his relatives and friends to raise P2 million in ransom money.

The victim’s relatives immediately sought the NBI for assistance which immediately planned a rescue operation.

Seized from the suspects were a caliber .38 revolver and Rock Island caliber .45 pistol.

The suspects were presented for inquest proceedings before the Office of the City Prosecutor, Las Piñas City for kidnapping and serious illegal detention charges. They are also facing charges for violation of the Republic Act 10591 or the “Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act”.
