Task force given 30 days to complete Echanes probe

THE Task Force on Extra Legal Killings was given 30 days to complete its investigation into the recent killing of peasant leader Randall Echanis.

“The investigation into the killing of Randall Echanis is already underway,” said Justice Undersecretary Markk Perete.

“The composite team tasked to conduct the investigation was given one month within which to submit a report on its findings,” he added.

Echanis, 72, was also a member of the National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP) peace panel on agrarian reforms and the deputy secretary general of militant peasant organization Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas (KMP).

During the incident, a neighbor was also killed, Anakpawis party-list group claimed.

Echanis is chairperson of the group.  His death took a twist when police allegedly forcibly took away his cadaver from a funeral parlor and arrested a paralegal of Anakpawis.

Paralegal Pao Colabres, who was guarding the body of Randall, was nabbed by the Laloma Police and brought to the PNP Station 1.
