Ecija irrigation office gives out choco-flavored condoms

In marking Int’l Women’s Day

GUIMBA, Nueva Ecija – “Say it with red roses, purple balloons or a box of chocolate-flavored condoms.

A local irrigation office here marked the celebration of International Women’s Day on March 8 (Monday) by giving out these tokens amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Dr. Jose Ariel G. Domingo, manager of Interim Division 6 office of the National Irrigation Administration-Upper Pampanga River Integrated Irrigation Systems (NIA-UPRIIS), said his office commemorated the event to serve as a fitting tribute to all women around the world — for their sacrifices and flaws, or their downfall and triumphs in life.

Domingo said he recognizes the efforts of his female counterparts at Interim Division 6 that is why he is giving them equal opportunities to shine in accordance with this year’s theme of International Women’s Day — #ChooseToChallenge.

Maricel C. Pangilinan, interim Div. 6 gender and development focal person and supervising irrigation development officer said these tokens consisting of red roses, purple-colored balloons and a box of chocolate-flavored condoms were given out to division unit heads here to symbolize women empowerment and the clarion call against gender bias and inequality.

Of the total 83 workforce members, Pangilinan said at least 13 employees belong to the distaff side of Interim Division 6.

Domingo said this year’s International Women’s Day was commemorated by his office following a flag-raising ceremony held at the rooftop of the JCB Building in Bgy. Cawayang Bugtong here.

UPRIIS Interim Div. 6 office operates a service area covering 20,996 hectares that are being maintained by 11,405 farmers in the towns of Guimba, Cuyapo, Talugtug, and Nampicuan.
