Jeepney driver killed, 6 hurt in Maguindanao road mishap

COTABATO CITY – A jeepney driver died while six persons were injured following a head-on collision between a cargo-laden jeepney and a pick-up truck in Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao on Tuesday afternoon.

Maj. Julhamin Asdani, town police chief, identified the fatality as Mohammad Nor Guiamad Kadil, driver of the jeepney that was loaded with bags of flour for delivery.

The injured jeepney passengers were Diokno Kadil, 56; Eyyad Buisan, 8; and Geraldo Segundera, 73, all of Bgy. Poblacion, Datu Piang, Maguindanao.

Hurt on the pick-up truck were Benjamin Labay Malang, the driver, and his passengers Nelson Adil, 26, and Norhaina Mamadra Datumanong, all of Bgy. Salimbao in Sultan Kudarat.

In a report, Asdani said both vehicles were traversing the opposite lanes of the highway when they collided head-on in Bgy. Ladia at about 12:15 p.m.

Both vehicles were heavily damaged, Asdani said, adding that responders rushed the injured to the hospital while the remains of Kadil were brought to their hometown for burial under Islamic rites. Philippine News Agency
