Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna joined officials from the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) headed by Secretary Benjamin Laguesma in leading the “2023 Labor Day event for Workers in the Informal Sector: Pabahay, Bilihing Abot-Presyo, Benepisyo ng Matatag na Trabaho para sa Manggagawang Pilipino” held in San Andres Sports Complex.

Lacuna commended the program which she said is a concrete display of concern for those belonging to the group considered as ‘Workers in the Informal Sector (WIS)”.

This, she said, covers ambulant vendors and street hawkers, small transport operators like tricycle and pedicab drivers, temporary construction workers, small-scale miners and quarry workers, as well as uncompensated workers in the household.

“Napakagandang programa ito ng ating Department of Labor and Employment sa pamumuno ng ating butihing Kalihim, Bienvenido Laguesma,” the mayor said.

Lacuna expressed elation that 83 individuals who happen to be Manila residents benefitted from the program that gave them various kinds of ways to earn extra money.

According to Lacuna, any help extended to the city government and its residents is always most welcome, citing the city government’s efforts in providing its unemployed residents with various forms of livelihood.

Lacuna thus congratulated the beneficiaries and called on them to strive in making their small businesses flourish and ensure that the financial support they received will not go to waste.
