Contractor, driver nabbed for showing off guns during traffic raw

TALUGTUG, Nueva Ecija – Two Sports Utility Vehicle-riding men armed with pistols were apprehended after allegedly threatening two truck drivers during a heated traffic altercation here on Monday morning.

Town police Major Rommel M. Zagala identified the arrested suspects as Arlene Payoyo, 51, contractor, and his driver Antonio Casidsid, 36, both of Bgy. Sta. Maria, Umingan, Pangasinan.

They were nabbed following a complaint from Sangguniang Kabataan president Kim Bernadeth Fronda that the duo who were riding a white Isuzu MUX SUV (NDR-8256) blocked the path of their two mini-dump trucks and engaged the truck drivers in a heated altercation, insisting that the trucks give way as they were ahead first.

At this juncture, Payoyo allegedly drew his gun while his driver showed off his pistol tucked in his waist in an apparent attempt to scare off the two trucks drivers identified as drivers Michael Roxas, 21, of Bgy. Roxas and Jomar Garibay, 36, of Bgy. Buted.

The incident occurred along the Talugtug-Umingan Road at 9:45 a.m. The SUV was traversing the opposite direction when it caught the two trucks crossing the middle of the road on the way to deliver aggregates to Bgy. Tibag.

Police investigator Senior Master Sgt. Gergorio Peñamante Jr. said following Fronda’s phone call about the incident, the suspects’ vehicle was flagged down when it passed in front of the police station, resulting in their arrest.

Seized from them were a .45 caliber and 9mm caliber pistol loaded with bullets.

Charges for grave threat and violation of Republic Act 10591 were filed against the arrested suspects.
