Akyat Bahay suspect robs trader in Malate, collared

A 23-YEAR-OLD member of an Akyat-Bahay Gang was nabbed by the Manila Police District (MPD) after allegedly robbing a businessman Friday morning in Malate, Manila.

Arrested by the Manila Police District-Arellano Police Community Precinct under Station 9 was Manolo Garcia Jr., of 1650 Augusto Francisco St., San Andres Bukid, Manila.

Police said the robbery occurred at around 12:30 a.m. on Florentino Torres corner Alejo Aquino Streets.

According to the police, complainant Robert Ong, Jr., 65, said he was asleep in his room when he heard footsteps.

When the victim opened his eyes, the suspect was standing near his bed. Ong said he yelled for help prompting the suspect to run to the ground floor.

The trader’s son was awakened and they both chased the suspect.

Police said Ong called up the Arellano PCP and the police immediately arrested Garcia.

Reportedly recovered from the suspect was the victim’s cellphone.

The suspect was turned over to the MPD-Station 9 after undergoing medical examination at the Jose Reyes Memorial Medical

Center. He was charged with robbery in an inhabited place before the Manila Prosecutor’s Office.
