Mayor Honey Lacuna announced plans to field more traffic enforcers in the streets of Manila in view of the suspension of the NCAP or non-contact apprehension in a decision issued by the Supreme Court.
In a statement issued by her spokesperson Atty. Princess Abante, the mayor assured Manila residents and motorists that regardless of the suspension of the NCAP, the Manila Traffic and Parking Bureau (MTPB) will continue to strictly enforce traffic regulations to maintain order, discipline and safety along the roads.
“Lagi pong bukas ang mga tanggapan ng Lungsod ng Maynila para tumanggap ng anumang reklamo at pati na rin sa NCAP. Sa katunayan po, may adjudication board po ang naturang sistema kung saan maaaring i-kontest ng motorista ang Notice of Violation,” the statement read.
The mayor said that the city government of Manila will fully comply with the SC decision to issue a temporary restraining order.
“Nauunawaan namin at itinataguyod ang karapatan ng sinumang mamayan na kwestyunin ang anumang gawain ng pamahalaan tungo sa ikabubuti ng lahat,” the statement added.
It further said: “Batay sa mga petisyon na sinampa sa Korte Suprema, sinasabi nitong may mga pagkukulang at problema ang NCAP. Nararapat lamang na pag-aralang mabuti sa korte ang mga naturang mga puna at sinasabing mga problema sa N-CAP ng gayo’y mabigyan ito ng resolusyon.”
Lacuna stated that whatever decision may arise from the study, review and discussions regarding the complaints against NCAP, the residents of Manila are assured that their city government will continue implementing ways to keep order in the streets.
